ANNUAL ODUNDE FESTIVAL 2025

The Odunde Festival is a one-day festival and mostly a street market catered to African-American interests and the African diaspora. It is derived from the tradition of the Yoruba people of Nigeria in celebration of the new year according to the Yoruba calendar or Kọ́jọ́dá, which usually falls on the first moon of June (Òkudù) on the Gregorian calendar.

It is centered at the intersection of Grays Ferry Avenue and South Street in the U.S. city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The festival is one of the largest African celebration on the east coast of the United States. It is held in the month of June. The festival brings in Africans from all parts of the world, including Africa, Brazil, and other places around the United States.

According to WXPN, “… beginning with an all-inclusive spiritual procession to the Schuylkill River, the festival carries on from 10 am8 pm, filling the day with vibrant traditional clothing, African food, and art and craft vendors from around the world.

Africa is fast becoming a major player in global trade, with its rich resources, skilled artisans, and unique products in high demand worldwide. As 2025 unfolds, African merchants have incredible opportunities to scale their businesses beyond borders. Here are some of the top export opportunities African businesses should take advantage of this year!

1️⃣ Agricultural Products

Africa’s agricultural sector remains one of the continent’s biggest economic drivers. Cocoa, coffee, shea butter, cashew nuts, and spices are in high demand globally. With growing interest in organic and ethically sourced food, African farmers and agribusiness owners can tap into premium markets in Europe, North America, and Asia.

2️⃣ Handmade & Cultural Crafts

From Ghanaian Kente fabrics to Nigerian Adire textiles, and Kenyan beaded jewelry, African craftsmanship is gaining international recognition. Handcrafted products with cultural significance have a unique market in the U.S., U.K., and beyond, where buyers appreciate authenticity and heritage.

3️⃣ Natural & Organic Beauty Products

African skincare and beauty products made from natural ingredients like shea butter, black soap, baobab oil, and argan oil are in high demand globally. Consumers are shifting toward chemical-free beauty solutions, making this a booming export opportunity for African entrepreneurs.

4️⃣ Processed & Packaged Foods

Africa’s food industry is evolving, with more locally processed and packaged foods making their way into supermarkets globally. Products like plantain chips, hibiscus tea, dried fruits, and African spices are gaining popularity, especially in diaspora communities looking for a taste of home.

5️⃣ Leather & Fashion Accessories

The demand for African-made leather bags, shoes, and accessories is rising. Countries like Ethiopia and Nigeria have strong leather industries, and the global push for sustainable fashion is creating more opportunities for ethical African brands.

6️⃣ Renewable Energy Solutions

With the world moving towards clean energy, Africa’s solar-powered solutions, energy-efficient stoves, and eco-friendly technologies are becoming sought after. Entrepreneurs in this sector have the chance to scale by exporting to regions in need of sustainable energy solutions.
